Meet Artist Dan Stauffer

For Dr. Daniel J. Stauffer, the world has always been something to study closely, whether through the lens of a microscope or the tip of a paintbrush. Born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Dan’s artistic journey didn’t start in a studio, but on the family farm. It was there, among the rolling hills and weathered barns, that he developed a keen eye for detail and a lifelong love for the natural world.

A Life of Dual Passion

While Dan followed a path into the sciences, earning his BS from Muhlenberg College in 1978 and his MD from Jefferson Medical College in 1982, he never actually put down his paint brushes. In fact, he’s been selling his work since his high school days.

For Dan, art and medicine weren't competing interests; they lived side-by-side in his head and heart. Throughout his 40-year career as a Family Practice physician in Quakertown (first solo, then with St. Luke’s), his creative side remained just as active as his medical rounds. Art and medicine shared space side by side, producing works in every medium for commissions and donations. Painting has always been a way to give back. Over the years, he has donated approximately $50,000 worth of art to local auctions, supporting organizations like the Upper Bucks YMCA, Quakertown Alive, and the Children's Developmental Program. If you find yourself in the lobbies of St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Hospital, keep an eye out, a few of his donated pieces are currently on display there, offering a moment of calm and beauty to patients and visitors alike.

Inspired by Home and Heart

Now retired, Dan has even more time to devote to his family and his craft. He and his wife, Maggie, have called the Quakertown area home since 1984, raising two children and now enjoying the company of four grandchildren (and plenty of pets throughout the years!). These familiar faces, human and furry alike, serve as the primary inspiration for his expressive portraiture.

Style & Spirit

Dan describes his style as romantic realism. If you look at his work, you’ll notice a deep fascination with how light and shadow play across a surface, bringing a sense of warmth and life to his favorite subjects which include: animals, portraits, landscapes and architecture.
